Two puffs of budesonide daily for 2 weeks could reduce the risk of hospitalization in mild to moderately ill Covid-19 patients by 91%, according to the study published by Oxford University earlier this months.
After the study was published, budesonide was introduced in the list of medicines used «off-label» for Covid-19 patients.
«The Oxford study showed that if recently infected Covid-19 patients start taking inhaled oral steroids as soon as symptoms such as sore throat and cough start, they would benefit immensely», - dr. Sundeep Salvi of the Chest Foundation in Pune said.
So steroids now could be the potential game changer in the pandemic, who knows what’s next….
